Current economic conditions have increased concerns about poverty in the San Joaquin Valley. Public and non-profit agencies are increasingly challenged to meet the needs of individuals and families impacted by poverty. Various definitions have been developed to explain poverty, which is a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional phenomenon.
The War on Poverty: A Dream Deferred has two basic purposes:
- to provide up-to-date information about poverty and its relationship to the current health, housing and educational conditions in the San Joaquin Valley; and
- to share the work of individuals and organizations involved in regional efforts to address and reduce poverty.
Please join us to learn about the linkages between concentrated poverty and current health, housing, educational and workforce development conditions and local efforts developed to respond to them.
