Africa, the Next Chapter

International Coffee Hour

Date: March 15, 2011
Time: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Place: Fresno State Henry Madden Library
Room 2206

Topic – Africa, the Next Chapter
Presenter – Chisanga Chanda

This week the ‘Focus on Africa’ series concludes with ‘Africa: The Next Chapter’. Chisanga Chanda, a junior majoring in Political Science and Philosophy, will discuss a number of issues important to many African countries, including the impact of foreign aid.

Several African scholars have criticized the amount of foreign aid given to some African nations. Today, the continent of Africa faces cycles of corruption, slower economic growth, and extreme poverty. In order to progress, some argue that a good start would be to eliminate Foreign Aid. Is this a valid suggestion? What are other ways to curb, reduce, and perhaps eliminate some of the economic ills of this great continent?

Join us to gain insight on how some of Africa's challenges might best be addressed as we discuss how other nations are dealing with these problems, and explore solutions suggested by some scholars.

If you have questions, please e-mail David Rasiah at davidrasiah7@mail.fresnostate.edu or Lucien Nana at nanalucien@mail.fresnostate.edu

March Gladness Church Basketball Tourney

Date: March 20, 2011
Time: 2:00pm - 9:00pm
Place: West Fresno Basketball Complex
1802 E. California Ave
Fresno, CA

This will be a great time to unite not just our youth and young adults but also our church together as we play a friendly, yet competive basketball tournament. You all know how I operate. I believe in peace and more fun than anyone can ever image with Jesus being the necleus of it. We want your participation in this great event. There is no registration fee. No underlining cost. We only ask that you tell your friends and the members of you church to come out and support your team. Also it would be great to have some cheerleaders or rooting section for your church team.

This is an 8 team men's tournament and a 4 team women's tournament. There will be a championship game at the conclusion of the evening for both the women and the men. The GIM will be performing at halftime of the men's championship game along with some area church dancers.

We currently only have 2 slots available for the men's tournament and 1 for the women so I need you to put a rush on your registration form. If you are short players, it is a acceptable for two churches to link up to form one team. Whatever you do, do it quickly. This will be a dynamic day. First game begins at 2pm. Championship game is at 7pm. If you have any questions or concern please contact me via email, office or cell.

The Financial Freedom Workshop: Helping You Achieve The American DREAM!

Date: Saturday, March 26, 2011
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM (PT)
Place: ReMax Gold Natomas
2081 Arena Boulevard, Suite 100
Sacramento, CA 95834

The Financial Freedom Workshop is designed to help you achieve the American DREAM. A recent poll of Americans between the ages of 18 - 34 years of age revealed that over 60% of them believe that homeownership is in their near future. That's amazing news!

Traditionally, there have been three (3) barriers that prevent most people from becoming homeowners:

1.) Lack of information
2.) Lack of confidence
3.) Lack of lack of funding

The D.R.E.A.M. Team Project was created to help you overcome these barriers. We offer mobile community-based homebuyer education and financial literacy programs. In other words, WE BRING IT TO YOU!

If you're struggling with bad credit--THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!
If you need money to buy a home--THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!
If you need more knowlege--THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR YOU!

Our team has over 50 years of combined experience. Come meet and greet Credit Specialists, Lenders and Real Estate Professionals as they conduct interactive workshops designed to educate and empower you with the information and resources you need to make good real estate decisions.

What past workshop attendees had to say

"I attended my first workshop on Saturday, February 26th at the Stockton Boulevard Partnership. The information was on target and the experts knew their stuff. I left that day with a game plan for buying my first home. I'm so excited!" DeNita J.

"I attended the workshop because I am interested in finally becoming a homeowner. I've rented for many years and it's time for me to change that. The information presented today was extremely helpful. I learned about credit, lending and the homebuying process all under one roof. I appreciate the fact that the workshop was free. But, if there would've been a fee for the workshop, I would have gladly paid for it! The information was just that valuable!" RoLanda B.

Grab your calendars and block out Saturday, March 26, 2011, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
