Basking in the world-wide exposure provided by the 1996 Atlanta Centennial Olympics, the Morehouse College Glee Club, The Spelman College Glee Club and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus were the driving voices behind the 300-strong Olympic Centennial Choir featured during the Opening Ceremony on July 19, 1996. During the Closing Ceremony, the Morehouse College Glee Club was featured with soprano Jennifer Larmore and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in a stirring rendition of the "Olympic Hymn"; with Gloria Estefan in singing the specially written Olympic theme, "Reach"; joined with Stevie Wonder, spellbinding the audience with "Imagine"; and at the extinguishing of the Olympic Flame, performed the moving a cappella arrangement of "The Flame" with famed country singer Trisha Yearwood.

Directed by the renowned Dr. David Morrow, this distinguished all-male chorus has completed a successful tour of the Russian Republic that included a stop in the capital of Moscow and trips to Poland, Bermuda and South Africa.

Keynote Speaker: John McClendon, Department of Philosophy, University of Michigan

Dr. McClendon is a full professor of Philosophy and has published the definitive work on C.L. R. James. His book is entitled C.L.R. James’s Notes on Dialectics: Left Hegelianism or Marxism-Leninism. McClendon is on the advisory board of Blackpast.org and the editorial advisory board of the journal, Cultural Logic and co-editor of the American Philosophical Association Newsletter-Philosophy and the Black Experience.

Ms. Cook attained her doctorate of jurisprudence from Emory University School of Law. At present, she is attaining her M.Div at the United Theological

Seminary in New Brighton, Minnesota. Ms.Cook is a licensed Baptist Minister and participated in Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr.'s Minister in Training program. Ms. Cook is also the former Director of Minority Affairs at Georgia College and State University. She was a caucus precinct captain for the Obama presidential campaign in Iowa.

Speaker: W.J. Moussa Foster

W. J. Moussa Foster is a theologian and an independent scholar. He earned his M.A. in African Peoples History from the University of Minnesota and completed doctoral work in African history. He is currently attaining his M.Div at the United Theological Seminary in New Brighton, MN. Mr. Foster has coordinated the pioneering cultural studies program at Luther College. He has published the well received essay, “Up From Brutality: Ending Sexual Violence in Black Communities,” in Transforming A Rape Culture.
