Things to do around Fresno

Hume Lake
This man-made lake is located in the Sequoia National Forest. No motorized boats are allowed, so it's a nice place to canoe or fish. There are two campsites nearby. Off highway 180 in the Sequoias (toward Kings Canyon), off Ten Mile Creek Road, Fresno. Phone 559-338-2251.

Millerton Lake
With over 40 miles of shore land for water sports, this SRA offers visitors swimming, fishing, and boating. The hills surrounding the lake provide good hiking opportunities. Wildlife in the park includes ground squirrels, cottontails, mule deer, badgers and bald and golden eagles. During winter, the park has special boat tours to view the bald eagles. Kings River
Kings, the mightiest of all of California's famous whitewater rivers originates high in the Southern Sierra. Kings River, which is just east of Fresno, runs from Kings Canyon National Park west to Pine Flat Lake. It has what's been called the best fly-fishing anywhere in the U.S. In the summer, there are plenty of other things to do, including horseback riding and rafting. Pine Flat
